Royal AM Goes Up for Sale

Premier Soccer League (PSL) club, Royal AM, is officially up for sale.

Last November, it emerged that businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize – who owns the Pietermaritzburg-based outfit and serves as its president – owed the South African Revenue Service (SARS) approximately R40 million in tax debt.

This had a significant effect on Royal AM’s operations, leading to the non-payment of player salaries and a FIFA-imposed ban on signing new players. As a result, it was compelled to postpone numerous matches in the PSL.

In a statement released on Thursday, 6 March, Jaco Venter – who was appointed by SARS as the curator to oversee Thwihli Thwahla’s operations and assets – announced that the club is now available for sale.

“The curator bonis of Royal AM Football Club (Pty) Ltd hereby invites all/any interested parties to submit offers for the purchase of the Football Club known as Royal AM as a going concern,” the statement reads.

Interested parties can submit their offers between 8AM and 1PM next Friday, 14 March. The winning bid will be announced at 5PM on Monday, 17 March.

Here’s hoping that the successful buyer will be able to turn the troubled club’s fortunes around!
